Ash (2019)

Senior Film Project | University of Northwestern St. Paul

“someone else’s perception of you does not change who you are.”

Ashley, a ballet dancer, survives a brutal car accident but is left bruised and scarred. Weeks later, she appears to be recuperating, but has become isolated and sullen. She learns that her community ballet company needs her to fill an emergency role, and Ashley hesitantly accepts. Her choreographer, Hobbs, is a very temperamental person, and Ashley's first practices go poorly. One day, while staying late, she meets Dan, one of the theatre technicians. Dan has a strange admiration for her, and over the next several weeks, Ashley continues the frustrating pattern of silently taking Hobbs' harsh criticism, and tuning out Dan's words of encouragement, until it all boils over in an embarrassing spectacle.
